Bellydance classes at ACS

The Relocation Assistance Program at Army Community Service offers free bellydance classes! Classes will meet from 4-5 p.m. February 16, March 1, March 8, March 15, March 22 and March 29 at ACS, Bldg. 2494 Ricker Road.

Dinner on a Dime

Let the Financial Readiness Program at Army Community Service teach you how to prepare great food on a shoestring budget. Dinner on a Dime focuses on making quick, healthy, affordable meals. Classes take place at the Milam Youth Activity Center, 10960 Haan Road on East Fort Bliss. The class is free, but pre-registration is required. Register online at www.blissmwr.com/frp or by phone at 569-4ACS (4227).

Classes are scheduled for:

  • March 22
  • April 26

Classes take place from 9 a.m. -11a.m. Free child care will be provided for children registered with Child, Youth and School Services. For more information, call 569-4ACS (4227).

Military Saves Conference

The Financial Readiness Program at ACS invites you to the Military Saves Conference from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Friday, February 24 at the Family Resilience Center, Bldg 250 Club Road on Fort Bliss.

Military Saves is a national financial readiness campaign with the goal of increasing household savings for short and long-term needs and decreasing consumer debt. We have an array of sessions scheduled to address consumer debt, credit repair, budgeting, saving, investing and more. We will have financial counselors offering one-on-one budget/coaching sessions and an exhibit hall with many organizations that provide free resources and services to take your financial well-being to the next level.

Financial Makeover Challenge

Do you worry about how you are going to pay your rent, car note, groceries and the rest of the bills that keep showing up in your mailbox? Are you ready to stop stressing over money? We invite you to participate in the Financial Readiness Program’s 2012 Financial Makeover Challenge. The challenge is a six-month program that teaches Soldiers and families to budget and manage their money in a way that sheds bad financial habits and develops habits that take control of their finances. FRP’s coaches will help the participants overhaul how they manage their finances with regular coaching sessions and classes through the six-month period. Participants will learn how to reduce debt, prepare a budget, and start a savings plan that will empower them to make decisions about their lifestyle in order to attain a successful financial makeover. Eight families will be selected for the FRP’s Financial Makeover Challenge. Completed applications must be turned in to ACS, Bldg 2494 Ricker Road, by Friday, February 24. ACS Resilience Training

Are you a tennis ball or an egg? Do you bounce back or do you crack? Learn to bounce back when the stressors of everyday life start getting you down by attending the ACS Resilience Training. The training will enhance your effectiveness and well-being by teaching you the skills to build mental toughness, learn what your character strengths are, build strong relationships, and lastly how to hunt the good stuff, focusing on the positive rather than the negative.

Upcoming sessions include:

  • Monday, February 27-Thursday, March 1 from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • March 19-22 and March 26-28 from 5-8:30 p.m. (must attend all dates)
  • Monday, April 23-Thursday, April 26 from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Monday, June 25-Thursday, June 28 from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • August 6-9 and August 26-29 from 5-8:30 p.m. (must attend all dates)
  • Monday, August 27-Thursday, August 30 from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Monday, September 24-Thursday, September 27 from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Monday, October 22-Thursday, October 25 from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Monday, November 13-Thursday, November 16 from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

ACS also offers four-week Resilience Training classes, that meet once a week. The next four-week classes are scheduled for:

  • April 3, April 10, April 17 and April 24 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Facebook Town Hall: Energy, Water Efficiency and Recycling

Col. Joseph A. Simonelli, the Fort Bliss garrison commander, will host Fort Bliss's "Facebook Town Hall" from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 6. The topic is energy, water efficiency and Recycling at Fort Bliss. Experts from the following programs will be available to hear your ideas and suggestions:

  • Directorate of Public Works: recycling, energy conservation and water efficiency
  • Balfour Beatty Communities: mock billing

Active Military Families Resilience Training

Learn to bounce back from whatever life throws your way with the Active Military Families Resilience Training offered by Army Community Service. The first training is scheduled from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, March 10.

Active Military Families Resilience Training is offered to families with children ages 3-12 and will take place at the Family Resilience Center, Bldg. 250 Club Road on main post. Registration is now open at www.blissmwr.com/resilience and is limited to the first 10 families to enroll.

ACS Open House: Bloom Where You're Planted

Come to the Army Community Service Open House from 10 a.m.-noon Tuesday, March 20 to learn about programs and services that will help you "Bloom Where You're Planted."

Multicultural Support Group potlucks

The Relocation Assistance Program at Army Community Service sponsors a Multicultural Support Group potluck each month. Upcoming potlucks include January 19, February 16, March 16 and April 19. The group meets from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. each day.

Bring a dish from your country for all to share! The Multicultural Support Group is a great was to meet new friends and try fabulous food.

Free car care clinic

Learn basic auto care, including changing oil, checking tire pressure and more at the Relocation Assistance Program Auto Care Clinic.

These free clinics are held at the Auto Crafts Center, Bldg. 820 Marshall Road. Upcoming classes are scheduled for January 26, April 27, July 17 and October 16. Classes run from 1:30-4 p.m. each day.

ACS Annex open on East Fort Bliss

Army Community Service now has two locations to better serve you: the main post location and a new annex on East Fort Bliss!

If you're out east, save time and gas by visiting the East Bliss annex at Bldg. A-479 Kasserine Rd., located between Saber and Thunderhorse roads. All ACS services are available at this location. Take advantage of full-service programs from Information and Referral, Financial Readiness, Mobilization and Deployment, Relocation Assistance, Exceptional Family Member Program and the lending closet. Limited services are offered by the Employment Readiness Program, Army Family Action Plan, Family Advocacy Program, Army Volunteer Corps, Army Family Team Building and Army Emergency Relief (located in A-478). If utilizing any of these services, call the main post ACS, Bldg. 2494 Ricker Road, determine which office can best serve you.

ASIST and ASIST Tune-Up training

ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) is a two-day interactive workshop that provides an opportunity to explore your experiences with and attitudes about suicide. In this training you will learn how to understand the needs of a person at risk of suicide, learn suicide first aid, recognize the warning signs of suicide, and learn what community resources are available. Upcoming classes are scheduled for April 18-19, may 15-16 and June 5-6.
