Get Busy With the EDGE!

Looking for cutting edge activities? Want to be on the leading edge? Then YOU are a perfect candidate for an exciting new program being offered here at Ft. Bliss; the EDGE!

Ft. Bliss Child, Youth, and School Services (CYSS) knows that there are first graders through high school seniors who either have interest in or curiosity about a myriad of ?extracurricular activities? that they would like the opportunity to explore. So make room in your life for the EDGE!

Starting this fall we will be offering month long cutting EDGE! sessions to introduce you to a variety of new activities. If you find the activity interesting you will have the opportunity to pursue it further through on-going classes offered by the Middle School and Teen program, SKIESUnlimited, Rod and Gun Club, Bowling Center, Golf Course, etc.

You can sign up for the EDGE! now at the CYSS Parent Central (PC) Services office which is located in Bldg. 1743, Victory Ave. and open from 0700 to 1730 M-F. Appointments are encouraged (so you won?t have to wait) and can be made by calling the PC office (915) 568-4374.

Kids' fishing tournament at Ascarate Lake

Fort Bliss CYSS and the Ascarate Fishing Club will conduct a free fishing tournament for youth ages 3-16 Saturday, May 26 at Ascarate Lake.

The tournament will begin at 7:30 a.m. on the east pavilion of the lake and conclude at noon. On-site registration will run from 7:30-10:30 a.m. at the Fort Bliss CYSS tent. All registered youth will be treated to free hot dogs, chips and drinks. All registered youth will receive free T-shirts, as well. Prizes will be awarded in three age categories.

The lake will be stocked with native fish prior to the event. Bait and 350 rods and reels will be on hand to borrow from the club with a photo ID card. The tournament will be open to the entire El Paso youth community. Because this is an educational venture with the Ascarate Fishing Club, a "catch and release" policy will be enforced with tournament participants.

Adults age 17 and older must have a Texas fishing license to fish in the lake.

The tournament is sponsored by Price's Creameries, Kohl's and Academy Sports and Outdoors.

While the tournament is free, all guests must pay the $1 per car Ascarate Park admission fee to enter the park. Only cash is accepted. Ascarate Park is located at 6900 Delta Drive in El Paso.

For more information, call (915) 755-0983 or (915) 751-3891.
