Outdoor play spots in the greater surrounding landscape of Fort Bliss, west Texas and southern New Mexico were born from small bands of outdoor professionals and enthusiasts. Your Fort Bliss outdoor recreation experts at Southwest Adventure continue that tradition. We provide several high and low intensity activities which offer Soldiers, veterans, friends and Family, enlisted or otherwise, the chance to get out and explore, meet new people,learn new skills, challenge themselves and relax. This upcoming season we are offering big multiday trips to Canyonlands National Park, the Chiricahua National Monument, and Colorado area ski destinations.
In addition Southwest Adventure's guided trips and activities, we also have an equipment rental program, Biggs Paintball, Tango Tower, and 9 portable disc golf baskets. If there something you need help with to plan your own adventure, just let us know and we will help you out!

Tower Day at Tango Tower
Reach new heights during Tower Day at Biggs Park! Enjoy unlimited use of Tango Tower for just $6 per person on these days:
- Saturday, May 19 (Armed Forces Day) - FREE!
- Sunday, June 17 (Father's Day)
The Tango Tower is a 50-foot tall, six-sided structure with over 20 different high elements, giving participants a multitude of choices. On Tower Day, there are no age restrictions and no reservations are required. All needed equipment is provided.

White water rafting with Southwest adventure
Are you ready for the rapids? Join Southwest Adventure for a high-energy, multi-day rafting and camping adventure in Northern New Mexico. We're going where the water is, so the location is still to be determined - but wherever it is, it's going to be wet!

The Memorial Day weekend trip will visit Brown’s Canyon on the Arkansas River in Colorado. The trip includes a zipline tour and overnight white-water rafting trip. Tickets cost $250 per person and include transportation, equipment, guide services, camping fees, rafting and zipline fees, all meals Saturday and Sunday, and breakfast on Monday. Participants will purchase their own meals while traveling Friday.
The location of the June outing is still to be determined. We're going where the water is - wherever it is, it's going to be wet!

Kids' fishing tournament at Ascarate Lake
Fort Bliss CYSS and the Ascarate Fishing Club will conduct a free fishing tournament for youth ages 3-16 Saturday, May 26 at Ascarate Lake.
The tournament will begin at 7:30 a.m. on the east pavilion of the lake and conclude at noon. On-site registration will run from 7:30-10:30 a.m. at the Fort Bliss CYSS tent. All registered youth will be treated to free hot dogs, chips and drinks. All registered youth will receive free T-shirts, as well. Prizes will be awarded in three age categories.
The lake will be stocked with native fish prior to the event. Bait and 350 rods and reels will be on hand to borrow from the club with a photo ID card. The tournament will be open to the entire El Paso youth community. Because this is an educational venture with the Ascarate Fishing Club, a "catch and release" policy will be enforced with tournament participants.
Adults age 17 and older must have a Texas fishing license to fish in the lake.
The tournament is sponsored by Price's Creameries, Kohl's and Academy Sports and Outdoors.
While the tournament is free, all guests must pay the $1 per car Ascarate Park admission fee to enter the park. Only cash is accepted. Ascarate Park is located at 6900 Delta Drive in El Paso.

2012 Team Aquathlon
Team Bliss Sports, Fitness and Aquatics will host the 2012 Team Aquathlon Friday, June 1 at Replica Aquatic Center. The race begins at 6:30 a.m.
The team aquathlon consists of three segments: a five-kilometer run, 400-meter swim and final 5-kilometer run. Teams consist of two-three members. Divisions include men's, women's and co-recreational.
On-site registration begins at 5:30 a.m. the day of the event. Registration is open to active-duty military, family members 18 and older, and DoD/DA civilians. Registration is free for active-duty and costs $5 per person for all other racers.
This is a Commander's Cup event. Teams with civilian members will not place in Commander's Cup standings.

Family camping at White Sands
Load up your family and head out to experience one of nature’s wonders when you join Southwest Adventure for a family camping excursion to White Sands National Monument in New Mexico. The next outing is scheduled for June 2.
For just $15 per person or $50 per family, campers will enjoy games in the sand, camping under the stars, hamburgers and hotdogs and any camping equipment required. The fee covers park admission, as well. Campers will provide their own transportation and meet at the park.
Tickets must be purchased in advance and can be obtained at any Leisure Travel Services (ITR) location: Bldg. 1743 Victory Ave., the kiosk at Freedom Crossing, and the satellite location at Soto Gym, Bldg. 20751 Constitution Blvd. on East Fort Bliss.

Intramural softball league
The Fort Bliss Intramural Softball League will begin play the week of June 4. The league is open to active-duty military assigned to Fort Bliss. Players must compete with their units. This is a Commander's Cup league.
A mandatory coaches' meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 23 at Soto Physical Fitness Center. All coaches must attend and bring a letter of intent.

Women's softball league
The Fort Bliss Women's Softball League will begin play June 8. The league is open to active-duty military assigned to Fort Bliss, family members 18 year of age and older, and DoD/DA civilians. All games are played on Fridays.
League participation is free for active-duty Soldiers and costs $15 each for all other players.
A preseason clinic will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 30 at Soto Physical Fitness Center.

Mommy and Me swim classes
At Mommy and Me swim classes, children as young as 6 months can join in the fun. Classes are held at Replica Aquatic Center and require a parent in the water. The classes cost $15 for a four-week session and meet from 8:30-9 a.m. each Saturday.

Fort Bliss Combatives Championship
Fort Bliss Combatives will host the 2012 Fort Bliss Combatives Championship Wednesday, June 20-Friday, June 22 at Soto Physical Fitness Center, Bldg. 20751 Constitution Avenue on East Fort Bliss. This is a Commander's Cup event.
The tournament is open to male and female active-duty service members assigned to an Army unit at Fort Bliss. Registration will take place from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday, June 19 at the combatives facility in Bldg. A493 Sapper St. on East Fort Bliss.
Competition will begin at 8 a.m. June 20 and will follow standard rules. Round 2 will begin at 8 a.m. June 21 and will adhere to intermediate rules. The final round of competition will observe advanced rules and will begin at 6 p.m. June 22. Spectators are welcome and entry is free.

Baby Bubble Hour
Baby Bubble Hour offers children ages 4 and under a chance to enjoy the water in a peaceful setting. No older children, including older siblings, are allowed in the water during this time. An open swim hour for toddlers, Baby Bubble Hour is held every Saturday from 8:30-10 a.m. at Replica Aquatic Center, Bldg. 5035 Dickman Road on Fort Bliss. For more information, call 568-7431.
New ID policy at physical fitness centers
Effective immediately, all West Bliss fitness centers will begin checking ID cards for patrons not in duty uniform or PT uniform. This includes Milam and Stout physical fitness centers and the Tennis Club and Fitness Zone.
Logan Heights Physical Fitness Center and Replica Aquatic Center currently check ID and will continue to do so.
There is no change in policy at Soto Physical Fitness Facility or Biggs Gym.
Fort Bliss combatives team tryouts
Fort Bliss and the 1st Armored Division is currently forming its combatives team to compete at the Army championships. All skill and experience levels are welcome to train and try out for the team. Training takes place at the installation combatives facility, Bldg. A493, from 6-7:30 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Other training times are available for those unable to attend these sessions. The team travels to compete in both civilian and military tournaments. For more information call 744-2467.
