Fort Bliss Family Fishing Day & Youth Trout Tournament

Fort Bliss CYS and the Ascarate Fishing Club will conduct a free Trout Tournament for the youth and cook out for the entire Fort Bliss community on 20 February at Ascarate Lake.  The lake will be stocked prior to the event with 2400 native trout.  Bait and 350 rods and reels will be on hand to borrow from the Club with a picture ID card as collateral.  Tournament will be open to the entire El Paso youth community. Because this is an educational venture with the Ascarate Fishing Club, "catch and release" policy will be enforced with tournament participants. The tournament will begin at 8 a.m. on the east pavilion of the lake and conclude at 12 noon.  On-site registration will begin at 0730 at the Ascarate Fishing Club pavilion. A Fort Bliss Child & Youth Services tent will host the cook out and an awards presentation at the conclusion of the tournament.  Our own Edge sponsored garage band will debut for everyone’s enjoyment while judges tally final scores.  Prizes will be awarded in three age groups; biggest & smallest trout caught for the 3-6 year olds; two biggest trout caught for the 7-11 and 12-16 year old age groups; and an overall grand prize for the biggest trout caught between all age groups.  Adults 17 years of age or older must have a Texas Fishing License to fish the lake.  You can get the licenses at any Academy, Big5, Wal-Mart or other sporting goods store.  An adult may assist a child to bring in a fish but may not fish for the child (this would not require a license).  The county park admission at the gate is $1 a car load.  For more CYS information contact James Kingwell, SAS Coordinator at 568-0834 or Susan Goss, Edge Director at 568-9006.  For information on the Ascarte Fishing Club contact Harold at 755-0983.  To view a past CYS fishing event and download a flyer & map to Ascarate Lake, visit our CYS web site at www.blissmwr.com/SAS . return to SAS
